Things to Do When You Should Be Working

From the educational to the, well, educational but fun.

TED Talk videos are now available online for free at their website. There are more than 60 videos currently available, searchable by theme, speaker, or talk title.

For those who don't know TED:

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

The annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).

This site makes the best talks and performances from TED available to the public, for free. More than 60 talks from our archive are now available, with more added each week. These videos are released under a Creative Commons license, so they can be freely shared and reposted.

Our mission: Spreading ideas.

We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we're building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world's most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other. Over time, you'll see us add talks and performances from other events, and solicit submissions from you, as well. This site, launched April 2007, is an ever-evolving work in progress, and you're an important part of it. Have an idea? We want to hear from you.

There's more info at their site.

For those trying to watch what they eat, there is the Calorie Counter Database from About.com. To access all the available tools, you'll need to create a free account.

There are a lot search options to choose from, making this an easy site to navigate. The wealth of information is staggering.

Now you have no reason not to keep a food log with accurate calorie information. And if you are trying to change your body in some way and you're not keeping a food log, start one today.

Finally, in the educational but fun category, there is Random FAQ, a site filled with all kinds of mostly useless information.
Welcome to randomFAQ! Our Random Fact generator will add another random fact or frequently asked question from our massive database every day. Using the HTML code provided on the right side of each page, you can display a specific or random FAQ, or the latest fact of the day, on your website, blog, or MySpace profile. Just choose which fact to display, and any color to match your site. Please enjoy the unlimited use of this free service!
On the main page, there are categories to browse with tons of useless information -- well, OK, not all of it is useless. A fun way to avoid working.
